Help renovate the Van Zandt Community Hall!
For over 60 years, the Van Zandt Community Hall has been managed, maintained and improved entirely through community donations of money, time, materials and talent. Since 2005, the SFVCA funded (through a combination of Hall rental income, donations at public events, and gifts from “angel donors”) major improvements to this historic building. Past projects included:
New septic system
ADA-compliant bathrooms and ramps
New 30-year roof
Exterior paint
New double-pane windows and sound-reducing shades
Quieter, more efficient propane furnace
New insulation and air-flow in attic and crawl space
Repairs to gutters and soffits
New lighting and ceiling fans, including emergency exit lights
In 2018, the SFVCA turned its focus to an ambitious renovation of the Hall’s interior. The dream is to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the historic school house in 2025 by creating a safer, more functional and attractive meeting space for community programs and events. Plans include:
A new entry on the northwest corner, which would double the building’s legal capacity
Repair cracked walls and ceiling and paint the interior
Restoration of windows on the east side, providing a view of the Van Zandt Dike
Remodel the kitchen and bathrooms
Additional storage area for chairs and tables
Expansion of KAVZ operations room
Washington State and Whatcom County allocated funds for this comprehensive renovation in their 2023 budgets. The SFVCA is working closely with the County Executive and the Parks Department to manage this project. But to meet the goal of a 2025 “Grand Re-opening,” we need your help!
The local community is expected to provide some funding for this project. The SFVCA hopes to remodel the kitchen and bathrooms, and complete the design, planning and permitting with local funds. Please DONATE to the SFVCA so we can hold up our end of the bargain and improve this important community gathering place! No donation is too big or too small.
